An Empirical Study of the Relationships Between User Interface Development Tools & User Interface Software Development

In recent years, to accompany the growing demand for graphical user interfaces to software applications, software providers have flooded the market with a proliferation of tools to assist the software engineer in production of such interfaces. These development tools range from libraries of pre-provided routines in a given language to large scale software development environments, which support the development of both the underlying application functionality and advanced user interfaces. This report presents the results of an empirical study which was conducted in order to investigate: (1) the use of user interface development tools; and (2) the user interface development processes adopted by the companies who used such software tools.
